One day in spring two men were riding on horseback along a country road. As they were passing through a grove of small trees, they heard a great fluttering over their heads and a feeble chirping in the grass by the roadside. A storm has blown one of the little birds out of the nest.
The older man stopped to pick the little bird up. “Why do you bother?” the younger man asked him. “Countless little birds fall from their nests every day. You can’t really make a difference.” The old man looked at the little bird in his hand and climbed up the tree and placed the young bird back in its mother's nest. “I can make a difference to this one,” he replied.
